Pl. 73. Right and left temporal bones and sphenoid bone.

Pl. 74. Hipbones and sacrum

Seen as a whole and visualized in a position that corresponds to the comparison of hipbone with temporal bone, the pelvis faces backwards. The front of the pelvis points in the direction of the occiput; thus in the picture, it is placed to the right. The pictures of the temporal bone with the lower jaw, however, show parts of the skull that point to the left.

First we look into the base of the skull, then we look into the pelvis. Thus one can compare plates 73 and 74. It is striking that this recurring resemblance links directly with our previous question: Is there a coherence in the shapes that are found between the bones and the bone combinations we have just studied?

In plate 76 the pelvis is shown so that we can see the sacrum at the back, between the hipbones. We see a number of openings through which nerve bundles run from the spinal cord to the pelvic cavity.
